a)Talk on “Water scenario in Karnataka” by Dr.T.K.Prabhakara Setty, Former Director of Research, UAS-B. A talk was organized on “Water scenario in Karnataka” by Dr.T.K.Prabhakar Setty, Former Director of Research, UAS-B on 28-6-2017 at B.J.Nanjundappa Hall, IAT, Bengaluru, where about 75 IATians participated.
b)A talk on “Speciality Agriculture- Farmers’ Perspective” by Dr.S.Prabhu Kumar, Former Zonal Project Director, ICAR Zone- I, Zone-VIII A talk on “Speciality Agriculture- Farmers’ Perspective” by Dr.S.Prabhu Kumar, Former Zonal Project Director, ICAR Zone- I, Zone-VIII was organized on Saturday, 22nd July 2017 at 11.30 A.M. at B.J.N.Hall, IAT, Bengaluru.
c) World Food Day 2017 celebrated at IAT on 28th October 2017 The World Food Day 2017 was organized by IAT on 28-10-2017 at Dr.H.R.Arakeri Auditorium, IAT, Bengaluru. The Chief guest was Sri.Chiranjeevi Singh, Former Additional Chief Secretary and Development Commissioner, Government of Karnataka and Chairman, AME Foundation, Bengaluru. Dr.Mruthyunjaya, Former National Director, NAIP-ICAR was invited as Chief guest and speaker on the theme. The theme of World Food Day was “Change the future of Migration : Invest in Food Security and Rural Development.” About 182 IATians participated in the programme.
d)49th Foundation Day Celebration and Inauguration of Golden Jubilee Celebration - 2018 of IAT, Bengaluru The Institution of Agricultural Technologists, Bengaluru organised the 49th Foundation Day and Inauguration of Golden Jubilee Celebration - 2018 on 18-12-2017. The programme started with invocation by Hasanamba Kala Thanda. The Secretary K.Krishnappa extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, IATians, participants and the Press. Dr.G.Eswarappa, Vice President of IAT in his introductory speech briefed the gathering about the history and establishment of IAT in 1968 by Dr.H.R.Arakeri and recollected the services rendered to the Institution by Dr.R.Dwarakinath, Dr.Puranik Math, Sri.Lingaraj Urs and K.Shankar. He also briefed about the celebration of Foundation Day every year to felicitate senior IATians who have attained 65 years of age. He also spoke that during 2018 the Institution is organizing its Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
He also introduced Sri.Shivashankara Reddy, N.H., Deputy Speaker of Vidhana Sabha, Government of Karnataka to the audience and requested to release the brochure of Calender of activities of Golden Jubilee Celebrations – 2018 and to inaugurate the programme.
The programme was inaugurated by offering flowers to the photo of Dr.H.R.Arakeri and lighting of lamp by Sri.N.H.Shivashankara Reddy, Justice A.J.Sadashiva and other dignitaries.
Sri.N.H.Shivashankara Reddy released the brochure of Calendar of activities of Golden Jubilee Celebrations 2018 and gave in his inaugural speech.
Prof.V.Veerabhadraiah, introduced the Chief Guest and speaker, Justice A.J.Sadashiva, Ex-High court judge, Bengaluru and requested the Chief Guest to release the logo of Golden Jubilee Celebration of IAT Bengaluru. Justice A.J.Sadashiva released the Golden Jubilee Celebration 2018 logo and addressed the gathering.
Sri.Siddaraju, M.C. member introduced Sri.Channabasavaiah, two times M.C. member of IAT and Ex-Assistant Director of Agriculture who was specially honoured with a citation.
52 Senior IATians who have completed 65 years of age were honoured for their contribution in the field of agriculture and to IAT.
Sri.Channabasavaiah, who received the special honour spoke on the occasion.
Dr.M.Mallappa rendered presidential speech and Sri.R.Ramamurthy proposed vote of thanks. About 151 IATians participated in the programme.
e) Dr.H.R.Arakeri Memorial Lecture Programme on Integrated Farming System organized at IAT, Bengaluru on 30-1-2018 Dr.H.R.Arakeri Memorial Lecture Programme on Integrated Farming System by Dr.M.T.Sanjay and Dr.Madhuprasad was organized on 30-1-2018 at IAT, Bengaluru. Dr.M.T.Sanjay, Chief Coordinator, IFSD Project, UAS, Hebbal presented the lecture on IFS. The advantages of IFS are Productivity, Profitability, Potentiality, Balanced food, Environmental safety, income/ cash flow round the year, saving energy, employment generation, enhancement in input use efficiency, solves fodder crises, solves timber and fuel crises, provides scope for establishment of agro-industries.
The speakers also presented several individual success stories and case studies on Integrated Farming System adopted by farmers in different districts. Dr.G.Eswarappa, introduced the speakers, Sri.K.Krishnappa welcomed the guests and rendered vote of thanks at the end. About 60 IATians participated in the programme.
f)Productivity and Production strategies of millets in Karnataka in particular and India in general by Dr.Prabhakar on 28-2-2018
As a part of Golden Jubilee Celebrations 2018 and Dr.H.R.Arakeri Memorial Lecture programme on “Productivity and Production strategies of millets in Karnataka in particular and India in General” by Dr.Prabhakar, Project Coordiantor(Small Millets), AICRP on Small Millets, Bengaluru was organized on 28th February 2018 at IAT, Bengaluru. Dr.Prabhakar explained in detail the importance of millets in Karnataka and also in India.
Sri.R.Ramamurthy, Joint Secretary extended a warm welcome, Sri.Siddaraju, M.C. member introduced the speaker and Dr.G.Eswarappa, Vice President who presided over the meeting explained about the importance of millets, their cultivation and market facilities. At the end Sri.Ramamurthy, rendered vote of thanks. About 55 IATians participated in the programme.
a)Seminar on “Crop Insurance- Issues and Remedies” held at H.R.Arakeri Auditorium, IAT, Bengaluru on 25-05-2017.
The sub-committee on Agricultural Policy and Development had organized a seminar on Crop Insurance – Issues and Remedies on 25-05-2017. Around 100 IATians, officers from Department of Agriculture, Horticulture, Insurance Companies and lead banks participated in the seminar presided over by Dr.M.Mallappa, President, IAT, Bengaluru.
Sri.B.R.Nagabhushana Reddy, Chairman of the IAT sub-committee extended a warm welcome to all the participants and briefed about discussions of the sub –committee members had with the implementing officers at the State level and the stakeholders at the field level in Chitradurga, Davanagere, Haveri and Dharwad districts to collect the feedback regarding the problems faced in the implementation of crop insurance scheme and suggestions to overcome the same.
Sri.G.Satish, IFS, Commissioner of Agriculture inaugurated the seminar and appreciated the efforts of the IAT in organizing the seminar to study the problems faced in the implementation of Crop Insurance Scheme in the State.
In his presidential address, Dr.M.Mallappa stressed upon the need for addressing the problems encountered in implementation of the crop insurance scheme and to come out with suitable recommendations to overcome those problems in order to make the scheme much more farmer friendly.
The following topics were presented and discussed in the seminar.

a) Evaluation study of Greenhouse structures The Institution of Agricultural Technologists(IAT), Bengaluru has been awarded by Karnataka Evaluation Authority (KEA) during the year 2016-17 to conduct a study entitled “Concurrent Evaluation of Greenhouse farming under protected Cultivation structures under NHM (period 2010-11 to 2012-13) and RKVY (2012-13 to 2013-14) of Horticulture Department”.
b)Inauguration of Diploma in Agricultural Extension Services for Input Dealers (DAESI) Training Programme at IAT, Bengaluru on 13-08-2017
The DAESI Training programme for Input Dealers of Bengaluru District was inaugurated on 13-8-2017 at H.R.A. Auditorium of IAT Bengaluru. Sri.K.Krishnappa, Secretary extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries, DAESI trainees, audience and the Press.

Smt.V.Usharani, IAS, Director General, MANAGE, Hyderabad in her inaugural speech elaborated the importance of DAESI training.
Dr.G.Eswarappa, presided over the programme, and thanked MANAGE for selecting IAT as Nodal Training Institute for DAESI Training programme.

a)71st Independence Day celebrated The 71st Independence Day was celebrated at IAT, Bengaluru on 15th August 2017, where Dr.G.Eswarappa, Vice President, and other office bearers and staff of IAT were present on the occasion.
b)69th Republic Day Celebration The 69th Republic Day was celebrated at IAT, Bengaluru on 26-1-2018. Dr.G.Eswarappa Vice President, IAT, Bengaluru hoisted the National Flag at 9.00 A.M. Sri.K.Krishnappa, Secretary, Sri.G.Gurunath, Sri.T.Madegowda, M.C. members and Sri.P.H.Pinjar, IAT Member and the staff of IAT were present on the occasion.
(c)Cultural Programme “Suggi Samskruthika Karyakramagalu” organized at IAT on 30-1-2018 As a part of Golden Jubilee Celebrations 2018 activities, a cultural programme on “Suggi Samskrutika Karyakramagalu” by Nemmadi Samskruthika Kala Thanda was organized on 30-1-2018 at IAT, Bengaluru The programme was organized by the Cultural Sub-committee of Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
The team entertained the audience with several Suggi Janapada Songs, folk dances, Kolata programmes and fancy dresses.
a)A motivational talk on “Who we are today = Decisions, Decisions and more Decisions over a life time” by Dr.Gopala Krishna, Vice President, Supernus Pharmaceuticals, Washington DC, USA.
A motivational talk on “Who we are today = Decisions, Decisions and more Decisions over a life time” by Dr.Gopala Krishna, M.Sc.(Ag.), Ph.D., MBA, Vice President, Supernus Pharamaceuticals, Washington DC, USA and a IATians was organized on 8th August 2017 at 11.30 A.M. at B.J.N.Hall, IAT, Bengaluru.
Sri.K.Krishnappa, Secretary, IAT introduced the speaker to the audience and extended a warm welcome to the dignitaries and the audience. Dr.M.Mallappa, President, IAT rendered the presidential address. Dr.G.Eswarappa, Vice-President, IAT also participated. Sri.K.Krishnappa, Secretary rendered vote of thanks. Dr.Gopala Krishna was felicitated on the occasion on behalf of IAT Bengaluru. About 95 IATians participated in the programme.
b) Ornamental seedlings plantation at Government High School, Baradi-Mandigere village, Nelamangala Taluk IAT adopted Government High School, Baradi-Mandigere village, Nelamangala Taluk for Krishi Ankura programme during the year 2017-18. It is a model school having an extent of 2.0 Acre with compound wall. The Extension Education & Agro-tourism sub-committee and Ecology & Environment sub-committee jointly organized Hedge / Ornamental seedlings plantation of Goldiana Dhuranta on 9-9-2017 in the school premises. 1800 Nos of Goldiana Dhuranta seedlings were supplied to the school free of cost from IAT worth Rs. 10,800/-. In the planting programme Sri.K.Krishnappa, Secretary, IAT, Sri.T.Madegowda, sub-committee member Sri.Pinjar and Sri.Narasimha Reddy, the School Head Master and staff participated in the programme. It was a very successful programme.
A total 4498 members were enrolled as on 31st March 2017. During the year 2017-18 (From April 2017 to March 2018) 78 members were added raising the total strength to 4576. Efforts were made through the members, regional chapters and officers of all the developmental departments to help in enrolling members to IAT. The Regional Chapters have been persuaded and supported regularly financially to carry out the activities.
a) Krishi Ankura Programme: Government High School, Baradi-Mandigere village, Nelamangala taluk ,Bengaluru Rural district was selected for Krishi Ankura programme during 2017-18.
The programme was inaugurated on 18.8.2017 by watering an ornamental potted plant indicating the importance judicial use of water by Sri.Bylappa,President,SDM of school and learned bunch of guests on the dais.
Dr. Mallappa, President of IAT gave a heart touching message that “to create interest on agriculture in the minds of young students at high school level, Krushi Ankura programme is being launched and appreciated the efforts of sub committee for having selected this school.
Dr.Eswarappa ,Vice president ,IAT appealed to the students to learn different technical methods on agriculture and related areas in the coming four months going to be taught by different resource persons.
The head master of the school Sri. Chidanandamurthy, profusely thanked the IAT for having selected the school & assured the full co-operation. The Chairman of the sub committee Sri. Madgowda welcomed the guests & narrated the objective of the programme. Smt. Sushelamma, ADA, Nelamangala Taluka also spoke on the occasion. The other sub-committee members Sri.N.Gopala Gowda, Sri. Pinjar , Sri.Basvaraj, Sri.Gopal, Sri.Hanumanthappa and SDM members, school teaching staff participated in the progrmme.
b) Visit to Krishi Mela by Krishi Ankura students IAT sub-committee of Extension Education and Agri-tourism sponsored the Education tour under Krishi Ankura programme to the 9th Standard students of Government of High School, Baradi Mandigere village, Nelamangala Taluk. About 60 students and Teachers visited the Krishi Mela arranged at GKVK, Bengaluru on 18-11-2017. The sub-committee member Sri.Pinjar accompanied with the team and showed various field exhibition stalls and explained different activities to the students.
c) Field visit to M/s.Criyagen Biotech Park and IFS Model fields in Doddaballapura taluk on 26-3-2018 A study tour was organized from IAT Bengaluru to Criyagen Biotech Park and IFS Model fields in Doddaballapura Taluka for the benefit of M.C. members and sub-committee members of Knowledge Enhancement, Extension Education & Agri-tourism on 26-3-2018.
M/s.Criyagen Agri Biotech Private Ltd., is situated at Karim Sonnenahally, Dodda Tumkur Post on Doddaballapura- Nelamangala State Highway No.74 in Doddaballapura Taluk of Bengaluru Rural district. Dr.Basavaraj Girennavar, Managing Director of Criyagen Biotech park, Sri.Imam Pasha, Crop Advisor, Mrs.Amitha, Senior Scientist of the organization welcomed and explained on the organisation.
The Team visited soil testing laboratory, organic Bio Fertiliser Producting unit also. Sri.Siddaraju, Chairman, Knowledge Enhancement sub-committee expressed thanks to Dr.Basavaraj Girennavar and his team members for extending full cooperation for the visit.
d) Field visit to IFS fields of Farmer Sadananda of Tapasihally village on 26-3-2018 The IAT team visited the Integrated Farming System fields of Sri.Sadananda, farmer of Tapasihally in Doddabalalpur Taluk. The team visited fish pond, Dairy unit, Gober gas plant, compost pit, Rose and Chrysanthemum fields, intercropping of the tomato in Arecanut Garden and fodder crops. The Team observed an old scooter is used for spraying of liquid organic manure. The successful adoption of Integrated farming system by Sri.Sadananda has been recognized and awarded by many organisations including Government of Karnataka and Government of India.
e)Valedictory programme of Krushi Ankura Programme on 23-01-2018 The 2017-18 Krushi Ankura Programme closing function was held on 23-1-2018 at Government High School, Baradi-Mandigere village, Nelamangala Taluk. Renewable Energy (CREDAL)office on request arranged and exhibited vehicle with all different equipments of solar energy. Sri.Madhavaswamy explained to the students about the utility of solar energy. Afterwards closing function started. The President of school Development Committee Sri.B.Bylappa presided over the function. Dr.G.Eswarappa, Vice President of IAT attended as the Chief Guest. Sri.G.Sachidananda Murthy, Head Master, IAT sub-committee members Sri.Gopal Gowda, A.Gopal, Basavaraj, Pinjar and other SDMC members, Sri.Ramaiah Retired H.M. Sri.Venkatesh, Sri.Chikkegowda were present on the dais. Sri.T.Madegowda, Chairman, Extension Education and Agrotourism sub-committee welcomed all the guests present on the dais, students and staff members. Competitive 3 prizes I, II, III were given to both section students and about 60 Geometry boxes were distributed to all students participated in the programme.
Finally, Sri.Bylappa, School teacher rendered vote of thanks and afterwards snacks were distributed to all the students of the school from IAT.
f)Solar lamps distribution under Krishi Ankura As a part of Krishi Ankura Programme 2018, Karnataka Renewable Energy Development Limited (KREDL) office sanctioned 10 solar lamps to distribute to the prize winning students on the basis of test results Three prizes each to 8th, 9th and 10th Standard students and one for overall performance of the student as decided by the teachers were distributed. This programme was arranged with “Saraswathi Pooja and other cultural activities in view of year ending for 10th standard students on 23-2-2018, Friday. The function was presided over by SDMC President Sri.Bylappa, Head master Sri.Sachidananda Murthy, Sri.T.Made Gowda, Chairman, Sri.Gopal, Sri.Pinjar, Members of sub-committee from IAT, Sri.Dixit from BEO office, Sri.Mahesh, AEE from KREDL and other SDMC members were present on the dais. Sub-committee member Sri.Pinjar addressed the students and personally donated two wall clocks to the school. Then solar lamps were distributed to the prize winning students.
The sub-committee was focusing on giving facelift to IAT Buildings, creating new infrastructure and certain repairs works at Bengaluru centre. The sub-committee has met 3 times to review and monitor the works. The main activities undertaken by the sub-committee during the year are.
a)Lecture programme by T.P.Vasanth on “Transactional Analysis of conflicts” Mr.T P Vasanth, IATian and alumnus of the 1975 batch of UAS Hebbal Campus delivered a very interesting talk on the above mentioned topic at BJN Hall of IAT Bengaluru on 19-4-2017.
Dr.G.Eswarappa, Vice President of IAT Presided over the programme. Sri.R.Ramamurthy, Joint Secretary introduced about the speaker and extended a warm welcome. Sri.T. Made gowda, sub-committee Chairman on Extension Education and Agro Tourism proposed vote of thanks. About 60 IATians participated in the programme.
b)Zen Capsules : Bio-Fertilizer Technology from M/s.Criyagen A talk on “Zen Capsules: Biotechnology led innovation for Integrated Nutrient and Pest Management for new Age agriculture” by Dr.Basavaraj Girennavar, Chief Scientist and Managing Director, M/s.Criyagen Agri and Biotech Pvt.Ltd., Bengaluru was organized on 28-8-2017 at IAT, Bengaluru.
Dr.Basavaraj Girennavar emphasized that Zen capsules are going to be the next generation biofertilizers to achieve integrated nutrient and pest management thereby preserving the soil health and thus making a huge impact in the new age agriculture.

c) Lecture Programme on “Ageing well – Tips for staying healthy and happy“ Presented by Smt.Swarnalatha Iyer, M.D., and CEO, Seshan’s Academy Infinity, Bengaluru A knowledge enhancement programme was organized on “Ageing well- Tips for staying healthy and happy” at IAT, Bengaluru on 29th November 2017. Smt.Swarnalatha Iyer, M.D., and CEO,Seshan’s Academy Infinity, Bengaluru delivered the lecture. Sri.Siddaraju, Chairman, Knowledge Enhancement sub-committee welcomed the participants and guest speaker. Mrs.Swarnalatha Iyer spoke on myths about health and ageing.

d) Lecture Programme organized at IAT, Bengaluru on 23rd March 2018 regarding “Challenges of Old Age” by Dr.C.R.Chandrashekar. A lecture programme was organized at IAT, Bengaluru on 23rd March 2018 regarding “Challenges of old age” by Dr.C.R.Chandrashekar, former Professor of Psychiatry and Deputy Medical Superintendent, NIMHANS, Bengaluru. During the Presentation he highlighted that old age is not a curse, if handled properly it can be a boon.

IAT is publishing the activities of Bengaluru and its Regional chapters in the form of a quarterly newsletter published once in three months. During the year 2017-18 four issues of Krishi Tantrajna (KT) during the qurter ending June, September, December and March were released and circulated to all the members.
The sub committee was authorized to concentrate on the issues related to roles and responsibilities of women in the Development of Agriculture, but activities could not be conducted during the period.
The Finance sub-committee was authorized to concentrate on Fund Management and Donations in view of Golden Jubilee Celebration during the year 2018. The sub-committee initiated steps to collect advertisements from Institutions / Firms and Entrepreneurs to be published in the Souvenir going to be released in the Valedictory programme of Golden Jubilee Celebrations.
The Core Committee finalized the Draft Amendments to Memorandum, Rules and Regulations and Bye-laws of the Institution and recommended to the Managing Committee to place for approval in the Special General Body Meeting. Most of the Amendments proposed by the Core Committee were approved by the Special General body meeting held on 28-10-2017 except items such as Governing Body and Election procedures, which were later approved in the Second Special General Body Meeting held on 28-09-2018 on the recommendations of 9 members Core Committee constituted in the First Special General Body Meeting.
